# Career Chart and Pilot Skills

> Earn skill points by flying, spend them with your Career money, and grow your pilot across seven disciplines.

# Career Chart and Pilot Skills

The **Career Chart** is your pilot's skill tree. Every Career flight earns progress towards **skill points**. You spend those points, together with your Career money, to train skills that make your pilot better at the job: more pay, less fatigue, cheaper training, faster promotions and more.

Skills never change how a flight is scored. They change what happens around your flying.

Open it from **Career → Career Chart** in the sidebar. A badge next to the menu item shows how many points you have ready to spend.

## How you earn skill points

Every Career flight adds progression XP, and each time you collect enough you earn a **skill point**. The top bar of the Career Chart shows how close you are to the next one.

Progression XP follows your Career XP or your Career hours, whichever gives you more. Counting hours means long-haul pilots, who fly fewer and longer flights, progress at the same pace as short-haul pilots.

Some skills also give bonus XP on certain flights. That bonus counts towards skill points only, not towards the leaderboards.

Points cannot be bought. Money is the second cost of every skill, so you also need to earn and save Career money to keep growing.

## Reading the Career Chart

The bar across the top shows your seven disciplines. Each one shows its level (points invested out of the total) and a ring that fills as you progress. A blue dot means something in that discipline is ready to train. Next to it, you can always see your points to spend, your progress to the next point and your balance.

Each discipline is its own tree. It grows from your base at the bottom up to its **Mastery** at the top:

* **Three lanes.** Two specialities on the sides, such as *Hands* and *Standards* in Airmanship, and a center lane that opens at tier II.
* **Main and minor skills.** The large circles are the main skills. The small diamonds between them are minor skills: smaller bonuses that add to the skills around them.
* **Pick one.** At tier III the center lane splits into two skills marked **OR**. You can train only one of them, so choose the one that fits how you fly.
* **Tiers.** The dotted lines across the chart are tiers. A tier opens once you have invested enough points in that discipline. The label tells you how many points are still missing, for example *Tier III · 2 to go*.
* **Mastery.** The top skill of each discipline. It opens once you have invested enough points in that discipline and needs any tier IV skill below it.
* **Crossfeeds.** The skills at the top corners, marked *Crossfeed · with …*, connect two disciplines. They open when you have a tier III skill in both.

What the colours mean:

| You see | It means |
| - | - |
| Amber skill and amber line | Trained. Ranked skills show a ring that fills with each rank. |
| Blue skill with a gentle pulse and a moving blue line | Ready to train now. |
| Grey skill | Locked. Its label tells you what it needs. |

Hover any skill to light up the path of skills it needs.

## Training a skill

1. Click a skill. A card opens next to it with what the skill does, the bonus you have now and the bonus you will get, and every requirement with a tick or a lock.
2. Press and **hold** the button until it fills. Holding means an expensive skill is never trained by accident. Let go early to cancel.
3. The rank is trained straight away: its points and money are spent and the new bonus applies from your next flight or payroll.

A skill can need any of these before you can train it:

* the skill below it in the same lane;
* enough points invested in the discipline to open its tier;
* a flying requirement, such as five landings above 15 knots of crosswind (the card shows your progress);
* a rank, for Leadership skills and a few Captain skills;
* enough skill points and enough money.

## What it costs

Every rank costs **skill points and Career money**. Higher tiers cost more of both, and Mastery and crossfeed skills are the biggest investments. Minor skills cost less than the main skills around them.

The exact cost of each rank is on its card in the Career Chart, next to the hold button. Training the whole chart takes a long time, so most pilots specialise in a few disciplines first.

## Airline stakes

Training **Airline Stakes**, the Finance Mastery, lets you invest in airlines.

* You can hold up to **three stakes** at a time.
* A stake's price depends on the airline's star rating: bigger airlines cost more.
* Every month each stake pays a **dividend**. It follows how that airline did on FlyHub the month before: the more Career flights pilots flew with it, and the better they landed, the more it pays. Before you buy, the panel shows the range a stake can pay each month.
* A stake in **your own airline** pays a little extra.
* You can **sell** a stake at any time for most of what you paid. The panel shows the exact amount on the sell button.

Dividends arrive with your payroll at the start of each month. The first one comes the month after you buy.

To buy or sell, open **Finance** in the Career Chart and click the Airline Stakes Mastery, then **Manage airline stakes**. Your stakes, what they paid and what they will pay next month also appear in the **Portfolio** section of the Career Dashboard.

* **Once-per-period benefits**, such as the weekly free jumpseat or the quarterly forgiven no-show, are used automatically the first time they apply.

## Common questions

**Do skills make flights easier to score?** No. Scoring is unchanged. Skills change pay, costs, fatigue and Career rules.

**Can I undo a skill or get my points back?** No. Trained skills are permanent for that Career save, so plan the lanes you want first.

**I picked one side of an OR pair. Can I switch?** No. The other skill of the pair stays locked for that save.

**Why is a skill grey even though I have the points?** Open its card. The requirement with a lock is what is missing: the skill below it, the tier, a flying requirement, your rank or your balance.

**Do bonus XP from skills count on the leaderboards?** No. They count towards skill points only.

**What happens to my skills and stakes if I reset my Career?** They reset with the save, like the rest of your Career progress.
