# Create and run an airline

> Set up your identity, leased fleet, network, admissions, and finances.

## Before creating

Enter Virtual Airlines in the desktop app and create your pilot profile. Free accounts can own one non-closed airline; personal Premium permits three, including operating airlines. Suspended and pending airlines still count. Ending Premium preserves existing airlines but can prevent additional creation.

## Launch your airline

1. In **Airlines**, choose the creation action.
2. Enter a valid identity and available ICAO code, select an eligible home airport, and supply the required branding.
3. Choose an eligible launch fleet and cabin configuration. Aircraft are leased. Review the daily charge and minimum commitment before submitting.
4. Review the launch rules and costs against the opening \*\*FH$10,000,000** virtual balance. FH$ cannot pay the real-money Growth subscription.
5. Open **Manage airline** after creation. Set up [airports](./manage-airports), [routes and schedules](./manage-network), and [fleet availability](./manage-fleet).
6. Configure [admissions and roles](./manage-people). Give staff only the capabilities they need; being a pilot does not grant management access.
7. Review [Finance](./manage-finance) and the [economy guide](./economy-and-pricing) before adding recurring commitments.

## Grow deliberately

The shared roster includes 20 active members free. At 20, current operations remain free; admitting the 21st active member requires Growth. An active owner counts. Pending applications and inactive memberships do not.

Growth costs **USD 15/month plus applicable tax**, billed through Paddle. It covers one shared airline/group roster, not each operating airline separately. It does not increase the ownership limit. Start or manage it in **Manage airline → Ownership**; see [billing and cancellation](./billing).

Groups share roster, treasury, and billing. Each operating airline counts against its owner's creation limit and keeps its fleet and network identity. Review [Group](./manage-group) before expanding.

There is no self-service transfer of ownership, co-owner feature, or restoration after retirement. Cancelling Growth and permanently retiring an airline are different actions.
