Career Base and Current Location
Career Mode tracks both your base and your current location. They are not always the same thing.Base
Your base is the airport your airline assigns you to. Base affects:- Career routing.
- Dispatch options.
- Company planning.
- Relocation decisions.
- Some cost and commuting logic.
Current location
Your current location is where your pilot is right now. It can change after:- Completing a Career flight.
- Taking a jumpseat.
- Accepting certain assignments.
- Relocating for reserve or a new contract.
Why the difference matters
You can be based at one airport and located at another. Example:- Your base is KATL.
- You finish a trip in KJFK.
- Your current location is now KJFK.
- The next assignment may require you to continue from KJFK or jumpseat back to base.
Moving base
Move Base changes your assigned company base. Before moving, review:- Available bases.
- Cost.
- Route network.
- Employer fleet.
- Your type ratings.
- How the move affects future dispatch.
Jumpseat
Jumpseat moves your current location without logging a flown Career assignment. Use Jumpseat when you need to:- Return to base.
- Reach an assignment origin.
- Handle reserve relocation.
- Position for a new contract.
Commuting and away-from-base cost
Being away from base can create costs. Examples:- Commuting.
- Lodging.
- Transportation.
- Relocation.
Common mistakes
- Assuming base and current location are always the same.
- Moving base without checking cost.
- Forgetting to jumpseat before an assignment.
- Looking for routes from base when your current location is somewhere else.
- Ignoring relocation requirements on reserve or job offers.
