Online Tracking

Online Tracking is FlyHub’s full telemetry tracking method. Use it when you fly on PC and FlyHub can connect to your simulator while the flight is active.

What Online Tracking does

Online Tracking records live simulator data while you fly. FlyHub uses this data to detect:
  • Aircraft position.
  • Altitude.
  • Ground speed.
  • Indicated airspeed.
  • Vertical speed.
  • Heading.
  • On-ground state.
  • Flight phases.
  • Gear, lights, and other aircraft events.
  • Touchdown and landing data.
  • Crash, hard landing, bounce, and unstable approach signals.
  • Route progress and total distance.
You do not need to enter the result manually. FlyHub builds the flight record from telemetry.

Supported simulators

SimulatorRequirement
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020FlyHub Desktop and SimConnect.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024FlyHub Desktop and SimConnect.
X-Plane 12FlyHub Desktop and the FlyHub X-Plane plugin.
Microsoft Flight Simulator does not need a FlyHub simulator plugin. It connects through SimConnect. X-Plane needs the FlyHub X-Plane plugin. See X-Plane Plugin.

Before you start

Before starting an online tracked flight:
  1. Install FlyHub Desktop.
  2. Open your simulator.
  3. Open FlyHub Desktop.
  4. Make sure you are logged in.
  5. Book or select the flight in FlyHub.
  6. Spawn at the correct departure airport.
  7. Start the flight in FlyHub before departure.
  8. Choose Online if FlyHub asks for a tracking method.
Do not wait until cruise to start the flight. FlyHub needs the beginning of the flight to understand the full operation.

Normal online flight flow

  1. Start the simulator.
  2. Open FlyHub Desktop.
  3. Open your booked flight.
  4. Click Start Flight.
  5. Choose Online.
  6. Fly normally.
  7. Land at the destination.
  8. Taxi in.
  9. Use Close Flight when FlyHub prompts you.
  10. Review the saved flight in your logbook.

What FlyHub expects during online tracking

FlyHub expects the simulator and desktop app to stay connected during the flight. For best results:
  • Keep FlyHub Desktop open.
  • Do not close the simulator before closing the flight in FlyHub.
  • Start at the booked departure airport.
  • Fly the booked route honestly.
  • Land at the planned destination when possible.
  • Use the recovery wizard if the simulator crashes.
  • Install X-Plane plugin updates when FlyHub asks for them.

Flight phases

FlyHub automatically tracks the flight phase. Common phases include:
  • Preflight.
  • Taxi.
  • Takeoff.
  • Climb.
  • Cruise.
  • Descent.
  • Approach.
  • Landing.
  • Taxi-in.
These phases help FlyHub decide when to watch for certain events. For example, landing data matters at touchdown, while cruise data matters during the enroute portion.

Landing and scoring

Online Tracking gives FlyHub the most complete scoring data. FlyHub can score or detect:
  • Touchdown G-force.
  • Crash conditions.
  • Bounces.
  • Unstable approach.
  • Runway touchdown behavior.
  • Centerline behavior.
  • Gear handling.
  • Light usage.
  • Altimeter setting.
  • Slew or teleport behavior.
  • Sim rate penalties when supported by the flight data.
Online flights normally earn full XP before any penalties. XP can be reduced by serious scoring problems, crashes, cheating, or sim rate penalties.

Closing the flight

After landing, FlyHub may show a Close Flight prompt on the Active Flight page or in the simulator overlay. Close the flight after arrival, not before landing. Recommended flow:
  1. Land.
  2. Exit the runway.
  3. Taxi to parking or the gate.
  4. Stop the aircraft.
  5. Use Close Flight in FlyHub.
  6. Confirm the result.
If you close the simulator first, FlyHub may lose the final telemetry it needs to finish cleanly.

Recovery support

Online Tracking supports recovery snapshots. If your simulator crashes, your PC restarts, FlyHub closes, or power is lost, FlyHub may offer the Recovery Wizard when you return. Recovery is only available when FlyHub had enough online telemetry to save recovery data. Recovery snapshots expire after a limited time. See Recovery Wizard for the full guide.

Online network bonuses

If you connect your VATSIM CID or IVAO VID in Settings, FlyHub can detect matching online network flights. When FlyHub confirms the network presence, the flight can receive:
  • A network badge.
  • A +10% XP bonus.
The saved VATSIM or IVAO ID must match the account you use online.

Common online tracking issues

ProblemWhat to check
FlyHub does not detect MSFSStart MSFS first, then FlyHub Desktop, and confirm SimConnect is available.
FlyHub does not detect X-PlaneInstall or update the FlyHub X-Plane plugin and restart X-Plane.
Flight was started offline by mistakeCancel or finish according to the current state, then start the next flight with Online selected.
No close-flight prompt appearsOpen the Active Flight page and check whether telemetry is still connected.
Recovery does not appearRecovery needs online telemetry snapshots and must be used before it expires.

Best practices

  • Use Online Tracking whenever you fly on a supported PC simulator.
  • Start FlyHub before pushback.
  • Keep the desktop app open until the flight is saved.
  • Use the overlay if you want close-flight prompts inside the simulator.
  • Keep the X-Plane plugin updated.
  • Use Manual and Offline Mode only when telemetry is not available or not intended.
